Independent Contracted Position
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Psychiatrist
is responsible for the prescribing, monitoring and medication education
of psychiatric medications to clients and the medication education
and treatment consultation to staff and family members of the program.
The psychiatrist must meet the following program standards:
• Provide an assessment as part of the initial assessment
including, but not limited to treatment recommendations, diagnosis,
medication evaluation, and prognosis. Prescribe medications as required.
• See every child on psychotropic medication at a minimum
of once every ninety (90) days.
• Review the course of treatment for all children that are
not on medication at a minimum of every ninety (90) days. The results
of these reviews shall be documented in each child’s record
within five (5) working days after the review.
• Assure that prescribed medications are in accordance with
the goals of the Treatment Plans and related to a specific mental
health treatment area.
• Provide a written progress note at least every ninety (90)
days based upon actual observation and review of milieu treatment.
This review shall include the reason(s) the medication(s) and/or
dosage is/are changed, unchanged, continued, or discontinued. Consult
on the development of a Service Plan and other written material
as deemed necessary by the Executive Director.
PERIODIC RESPONSIBILITIES
• Consult with treatment staff.
• Provide in-service training of treatment staff as may be
required.
• Provide on-call consultation as needed
• Represent VTC/NVS in community activities and to other agencies
in keeping with the VTC/NVS role as consulting psychiatrist.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
• Must hold a current Physician and surgeon License
• DEA Certificate
• Current Liability Insurance
