Assertive Community Treatment
Program Description

Our Mission is to be a catalyst for sustained improvement in the lives of those we touch.

Victor Community Support Services provides intensive community-based mental health services to youth involved in the juvenile justice system, residing in Nevada County. Services are provided by a multi-disciplinary team, in partnership with the Probation Department, Juvenile Court, and Nevada County Behavioral Health.

Services are provided to youth with psychiatric conditions that are a clear impediment to preventing further delinquency. In tandem with the Mental Health Court and the Probation Department, the adolescent is held strictly accountable for their behavior while matching them to appropriate diagnostic, therapeutic and community based interventions.

Treatment Model

An empirically proven model, entitled Assertive Community Treatment, or ACT, is incorporated into the service delivery. This evidence-based practice emphasizes resiliency, client strengths, teamwork, family connections, and community involvement.

Treatment services provided may include:

  • Individual therapeutic services provided in a community based setting
  • Therapeutic family services
  • Weekly anger management, social skill building, and moral reasoning groups
  • Drug and Alcohol Counseling
  • Linkage to community resources
  • Culturally competent services

Length of Service:

The target length of service is one year. After one year, clients are re-assessed and evaluated for a less intensive service design.

Primary benefits of treatment include:

  • Getting off probation and staying out of juvenile hall;
    Increased prosocial activities;
  • Skills and supports to stay off of drugs and alcohol;
  • Improved social functioning, and mental illness symptom relief.
Youth and families also frequently report improved family life satisfaction, clarified life direction, and the acquisition of social, emotional, and vocational skills.
