Shasta FICS
(Family Intervention and Community Support)
Located in the beautiful, recreation-rich Northern Sacramento valley,
VCSS/Shasta FICS is a community-based mental health treatment program
which contracts its services to Northern Counties and other organizations
serving severely emotionally disturbed and developmentally delayed children
and their families. Shasta FICS works in partnership with these agencies
to improve quality of life, build individual and family strengths, and
prevent family disruptions and out-of-home placements that could result
from untreated mental and emotional problems.

Our
programs include:
Community-Based
Mental Health Services
This
program provides a continuum of home-based services designed
to achieve the following goals:
•
Mental health assessments of children referred to our services
• Avoidance of hospitalization
• Retention of current placement and prevention, where
possible, of having to move a child to a higher level of
care
• Transition of children from higher levels of care
to lower levels of care, e.g. hospital, group home, foster
home, biological or adoptive home
• Treating mental health issues which cause disruption
in personal and family life
• Assisting families in developing their strengths,
locating and using available resources, and developing constructive
patterns of interaction
These
goals are achieved through cooperative efforts with our
community partners,
rapid response, crisis intervention, ongoing counseling,
education, and referral.

School-Based
Mental Health Services
Clinicians
are based in public schools to provide individual, group,
and family therapy to children and their families. Other
services available through these staff are crisis intervention,
case management, teacher education and training, and consultation
to other professionals and involved parties in both school
and home settings.
Therapeutic Behavioral Services
Shasta
FICS staff provides a 1:1 relationship with a child through
a state-mandated entitlement program. Within this program
providing behavior management, skills training, anger management,
parenting skill development and collaboration with other
clinical resources facilitates family use of other available
services and empowers parents to regain control of the family
situation.

Far Northern
Regional Center Wraparound Services
Not
to be confused with SB 163 Wraparound Programs, this program
has as its goal to keep developmentally delayed children
in their homes. Through frequent, intensive in-home interventions
with children and their families, staff provides behavioral
training for the child, specific skills training for parents,
and strategies designed to facilitate development and environmental
changes which result in greater safety and a better quality
of daily life.
VCSS/Shasta
FICS
works in close collaboration with Shasta County’s
Departments of Mental Health, Child and Family Services,
Probation, and School Districts to develop a broad continuum
of community treatment services. These services have demonstrated
successful outcomes, and have enabled many children to live
successfully with their families in society. As an agency,
we are highly committed to work with our community partners
in developing whatever services are needed to enable children
and their families to develop the strengths and resources
they need to thrive in the communities in which they live.
