Davis, CA
VCSS Davis provides prevention and early intervention services targeted to the underserved urban population in Yolo County, including the cities of Davis, Woodland and West Sacramento.
The primary focus of the program is to increase resiliency and protective factors to prevent individuals and families from developing symptoms of mental illness and the associated negative life outcomes. Services are provided exclusively in the community in the natural settings where children and transition aged youth (TAY) and their families live and attend school. VCSS Davis staff includes an Executive Director, Clinical Supervisors, Clinicians, Mental Health Resource Specialists, and Parent Partners. Administrative Support staff are also a part of the team providing these services.
As the Urban Children's Resiliency Program provides prevention and early intervention services, we emphasize both effective family inclusion and excellent collaboration with county partners (school districts, juvenile probation, community mental health and so on) and sister agencies and programs in the county in order to produce positive outcomes. Success for individuals and families equals success for the community, as well.
VCSS Davis utilizes innovative and evidence based approaches in reaching out to the underserved consumers in the county. The Crossroads Program, developed through the National Curriculum Training Institute (NCTI), provides a cognitive based program curriculum aimed at behavioral change. The Why Try? curriculum, developed by Christian Moore, LCSW, uses a multi-media approach in coaching adolescents to recognize the thinking and behavior patterns that maximize their Freedom, Opportunity and Self-Respect.
Expected outcomes for children involved in the program include an increase in school attendance and achievement, a decrease in juvenile probation involvement/recidivism and a decrease in needed mental health services.
