Victor Treatment Centers Redding provides residentially-based services to children, adolescents and their families and is situated in Redding, California in Shasta County. The target populations served by this program are children and adolescents ages 8 through 18 who have serious emotional/behavioral/family problems and have not been able to succeed in family settings or other lower levels of care. The primary goals of the program are to successfully treat and either improve or reduce the symptoms associated with a mental health condition so that the children and youth can be returned to their homes or to a lower, less intensive level of care. Since many of the youth who are served in the program are foster youth who reach transition age while placed in our treatment center, another goal of the program is to ensure appropriate services and supports are put in place prior to or in conjunction with discharge, in order to support their continued success post discharge.

Work with the children and youth occurs in a day intensive treatment program that takes place simultaneously with their school program at North Valley School, Redding Campus. Individual, group, family, experiential, and animal-assisted therapies in conjunction with case management services occur in offices at the program's primary site or in locations adjacent to or associated with the primary site. Children and youth reside in community-based homes where the dedicated and highly trained staff provide supervision and many social skills development activities. The residents' overall programming is highly individualized, coordinated with school involvement, based upon the unique strengths and resilience of each child and youth, and is relationship based in all aspects. Further, the services provided are based upon a model for 24 hour out-of-home treatment that takes a holistic view of each child, youth and family; individual treatment plans incorporate physical health, spiritual health, educational and vocational pursuits, social engagement and emotional health. This creates and ensures access to a comprehensive and flexible array of responsive services and supports.

VTC Redding provides the highest quality of care based upon clinical excellence, trauma informed care, utilization of Evidence Based Practices, and emphasis on continuous quality improvement.

All clinicians must have Masters Degrees and be either licensed or license-eligible. Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialists also must have degrees and experience as defined by applicable state regulatory agencies. Medical/Psychiatric consultants and nurses must be properly licensed and meet the requirements that are defined by applicable state agencies and their respective job descriptions. Residential Services Supervisors, Buffers, Floaters and Residential Counselors must all have high school diplomas or equivalents and must receive substantial pre-employment and on-going training and education. All personnel must pass pre-employment physical exams and criminal background checks. Part-time (relief) personnel must meet the same qualifications as their full-time counterparts. Maintenance, office support, training, custodial and food service personnel must meet the requirements of their respective job descriptions and complete pre-work and ongoing training specific to their jobs. In all of our service delivery, we hold our employees accountable for actions and outcomes and continuously use appropriate data and feedback to advance the goal of improving services.

VTC Redding is highly committed to the use of innovative practices. Meal planning is done with the assistance of the clients, encouraging clients with cultural and ethnic differences to participate and share what is different and unique to their culture. Clients with special dietary needs are coordinated and contracted through a physician or dietitian. Children and youth have the opportunity to participate in a Ropes/Challenge Course, work in an Auto Shop, become involved in 4-H activities with animals (horses, pigs, goats), compete in various sports activities, and engage in music and arts activities.

VTC Redding creates and advances a philosophy that is family driven and youth guided. Commitment to the child, youth and family is on-going with constant striving to provide continuity, support transitions, and promote individualized and culturally competent service delivery. For however long the individual is placed in our setting, it is understood that this placement represents a young person's home away from home and family members are viewed as partners, having open access to the out of home setting to the maximum extent possible. We are a 24 hour facility and visitation for family, friends and workers is coordinated on an individual basis depending on specific circumstances and needs, which sometimes includes providing transportation, housing, and/or meals for families who are experiencing financial hardship.

The core principles that support the VTC Redding program are based upon the belief that children, youth and families should live a full life where they experience love, joy, learning, health, hope, safety and growth, and are able to reach their full potential as healthy, functioning, contributing members of their families and communities. We constantly strive to do all that we can to support sustained improvement in all treatment areas such that this is a dream realized by all who receive our services.
